Sceptres star Blayre Turnbull pens heartfelt note of gratitude to Toronto crowd after ‘Battle on Bay Street’ victory over the Sirens

PWHL Toronto captain Blayre Turnbull had a heartwarming response to the Toronto crowd as they played their Saturday night game at the Scotiabank Arena. The Sceptres secured a crucial 4-2 victory over the New York Sirens in the “Battle on Bay Street” on the night.

The win, cheered by a season-high crowd of 19,102, gives the struggling Sceptres a lifeline in the PWHL standings. Turnbull made sure to appreciate the fans on Sunday, with a note of gratitude on her Instagram stories.

She reposted the Sceptres’ closing post after the game on her own stories and wrote:

“Thanks to our fans for making yesterday one for the books”, along with a blue heart emoji.

Captain Blayre Turnbull led the charge on the night alongside Hannah Miller, who scored twice to take the league scoring lead with six goals. Sarah Nurse netted the game-winner, showcasing Toronto’s resolve in a high-pressure matchup.

The Sceptres remain at the bottom of the standings but are only two points behind New York, which holds the final playoff spot. With 18 games left, Toronto has a realistic chance to climb the standings, particularly with the anticipated return of reigning MVP Natalie Spooner, who is skating with the team post-surgery.

Despite the win, Toronto’s slow starts and inconsistent goaltending remain concerns. The team has conceded early goals in several losses, forcing them to play from behind.

Kristen Campbell, last season’s Goalie of the Year, is underperforming with a 2.88 GAA and .887 save percentage. Backup Raygan Kirk has shown promise but cannot carry the load alone.
